Often, you'll come into the box and see a bunch of random letters on the white board and wonder......huh?  Here's a list of some common terms and phrases you may hear from our coaches and members and acronyms you may see on the board.


CrossFit Terms Common at CFGR:

  • AMRAP: As many rounds as possible (usually within a given time)
  • Rx'd:  As prescribed (doing the workout with exactly the suggested weights, reps, etc.)
  • Box:  A CrossFit gym
  • BW:  Body weight
  • CFT:  CrossFit Total –  The combined weight of your 1 rep squat, press, and deadlift
  • Chipper:  A workout with many reps and many movements (you chip away at it)
  • C&J:  Clean and Jerk 
  • CTB or C2B:  Chest to Bar (as in pull ups)
  • DL:  Deadlift 
  • DU’s:  Double Unders – two turns of the jump rope per jump
  • EMOM:  Every Minute on the Minute
  • HSPU – Hand Stand Push-Up
  • KB:  Kettlebell
  • K2E:  Knees to Elbows 
  • Kick Up: Kipping for the HSPU
  • Kipping: Using your body motion to assist with an exercise rather than just your strength
  • MetCon:  Metabolic Conditioning
  • MU: Muscle Up 
  • OHS:  Overhead squat 
  • PJ:  Push Jerk 
  • PR:  Personal Record
  • Rep:  Repetition 
  • RFT:  Rounds for Time 
  • Scale:  To modify a WOD to fit your individual ability
  • SDHP: Sumo Deadlift High Pull 
  • Set:  A group of repetitions
  • Tabata:  20 seconds of exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest, often for 8 rounds
  • TGU:  Turkish Get-Up
  • T2B:  Toes to Bar
  • Unbroken:  Perform all in a row or start over at the beginning
  • WOD: Workout of the Day
